Chesterfield County Approves $45M Downtown Revitalization Plan

The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 Tuesday to approve a sweeping $45 million downtown revitalization plan that will reshape the heart of the county over the next five years.

The plan includes a new public library, upgraded streetscaping along Ironbridge Road, and the conversion of three vacant lots into mixed-use developments featuring ground-floor retail and affordable housing units.

"This is the most significant investment in our downtown corridor in over two decades," said Board Chair Maria Gonzalez. "We are building the Chesterfield our grandchildren will inherit."

Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with the first phase — the library and adjacent plaza — completed by spring 2028. The county has secured $18 million in federal grants, with the remainder funded through bonds.
